Indians in Nigeria hold campaign for Prime Minister Modi’s third term re-election

Indian businessmen, professionals and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Nigeria, held a campaign session for Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s third term re-election in Lagos on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that India’s election is to hold from April 19 to June 1.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been leading India since 2014 and will be contesting for his third term in the forthcoming election.

Mr Sanjay Srivastava, one of the organisers of the campaign and Convener of Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP) Nigeria, disclosed this in a statement.

Srivastava said the campaign held at three different locations in Lagos, was aimed at encouraging Indians residing in Nigeria to actively participate in the upcoming Indian general elections.

He said it was also to ensure utmost support for the candidacy of Modi.

“Approximately, 100 NRIs joined forces to urge their fellow Indians to engage in ground campaigning in India and encourage friends and family members to exercise their voting rights in support of Prime Minister Modi.

“The primary objective of the campaign was to mobilise the Indian community in Nigeria to actively participate in the electoral process in India,” he said.

Also, Pravin Kumar, General Secretary of OFBJP, emphasised the significance of their involvement in shaping the future of Indians.

Kumar said similar awareness campaigns and programmes had been scheduled for weekends before the election to ensure a sustained effort to rally support for Prime Minister Modi and his government.

“This campaign stresses the importance of personal engagement and urges Indians to visit India for ground campaigning. “We remain committed to mobilising the Indian diaspora in Nigeria and ensuring their active participation in the electoral process back in India,” he said.
