KGGEvents, an organiser of specialised conferences and exhibitions, has called for a renewed commitment to strengthening border security in West Africa.
Malvin Kane, Director of KGGEvents, made the call in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.
He said that the security of West Africa’s borders was a pressing concern, given the region’s vulnerability to cross-border crimes, terrorism, and irregular migration.
According to him, effective border security is essential for maintaining regional stability, promoting economic development, and protecting citizens’ lives and livelihoods.
He urged government across the West African region to adopt new technologies to upscale security around the borders.
“West Africa border security is of great importance to us at KGGEvents; security around our borders is important to boost trade and tourism.
“We call on government across the West Africa region to take the issue of security more seriously.
“A lot can be done, new technologies can be adopted to improve on security,” he said.
Kane noted that to address various challenges relating to border security, the firm would be hosting the 2025 edition of West Africa Border Security Week Conference and Exhibition in Accra, Ghana, between Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.
He said the programme would seek to bring together stakeholders from across the region to discuss innovative solutions and strategies for enhancing border security.
According to him, the theme for the conference will be, “Securing West Africa’s Borders: Innovation, Collaboration, and Resilience for Sustainable Growth”.
He said, “With growing cross-border trade, migration, and transnational security threats, securing borders while ensuring the smooth flow of goods and people is critical to West Africa’s stability and economic development.
“The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has increased the need for harmonised border procedures, seamless travel, and security cooperation among nations.
“The West Africa Border Security Week 2025 will provide a platform to address these issues by fostering dialogue, sharing expertise, and showcasing the latest technologies in border security.”
According to him, the event will convene government agencies, border control authorities, security experts, and technology providers to discuss innovative solutions that enhance border operation efficiency and promote regional integration.
Mr Olugbenga Adebayo, Chief Executive Officer of Gadeshire Consulting Ltd., said the conference was also meant to enhance regional collaboration and showcase cutting-edge technology.
Adebayo, who is also the Country Representative of KGGEvents, said the programme would address key issues and trends, promote capacity building, and provide a platform for knowledge sharing.
“The two-day conference is expected to feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and presentations by leading experts and practitioners in border security.
“The exhibition pavilion will showcase the latest border security technologies and solutions by leading technology brands,” he said
